It was announced Today that Brooks Lennon has signed through 2025 with an option for 2026. The fullback has been with Atlanta United since 2020 and has provided 4 goals and 16 assists in 80 appearances with the club.
In my opinion this is a great signing for the club. Brooks still has potential to get better, and with a new striker coming in next year, Brooks certainly can have a monster year next season. Even this season, (looking at the per 90s below comparing him to MLS fullbacks) Brooks has provided so much. There is obviously room for improvement, but those attacking percentiles are exactly what you want in an Atlanta United team.
Lennon is currently making $500,000 a year and I project this new salary sits around $550,000-650,000. Who knows, he could have taken a pay cut. (which I highly doubt since its a long term extension) But this is a step in the right direction for Atlanta, because you definitely do not want a Gressel situation to arise again. In my opinion, Atlanta needs to continue to lock up their reliable players who can produce for you for potentially five years. My examples are Gutman, Gutman, and probably Gutman. There are a lot of players that need to prove themselves, and others are players who have aspirations to take the “next” step in the soccer world. Overall, Lennon’s contract extension is definitely a move all Atlanta United fans should welcome with open arms.
