Atlanta United vs Toronto FC Match Review

Matchweek 2 was upon us, as somehow we rallied back to the benz after almost barely processing the events from matchweek 1. The general script in this one was, as expected, similar to what we saw last week. A team that sits back and doesn’t really challenge Atlanta defensively at all. Atlanta’s attacking play and general build up was yet again a result of Toronto sitting back. Toronto did very well to sit in and force Atlanta to play through the wings, resulting in less than impressive crosses. Some encouraging moments in transition but not enough. Toronto ended the half with only 1 shot, that shot was about 30 yards away and went way wide. Atlanta ended with 8 shots, the best being a free header for the Toronto killer himself Juan Jo Purata, which he surprisingly didn't even get on target.

The second half was like the bottom half of the cheesy goldfish when all the cheese dust goes to the bottom, it was better. Still not impressed though, after the Toronto goal, Atlanta continued to be forced to work it to the sides unless Almada played a wonder ball to break the lines. One could yet again create the argument that the subs of Etienne and Giakoumakis made a immense difference, as Rossetto scored his lucky double doink reflection banger. Etienne made a couple of nice runs and should replace Wiley in the xi next weekend, but the stagnant play continued throughout the whole team. Giakoumakis opened his account on a goal that would stand if the flag had not gone up.

The match ended and we saw the same old. I believe we should have Charlotte in a choke hold like Jon Jones Saturday evening next week because Charlotte should not be playing remotely as deep as home as San Jose and Toronto did to us, ultimately hindering our attack. All in all, a match that lacked a couple of moments to make it a full 3 points for Atlanta. I guess we are going to have to take 4 points in our first 2.
