Atlanta United Preview:

Atlanta is coming off of an embarrassing 6-1 away loss to Columbus Crew, where many players for the Five Stripes missed on international duty. Still, Atlanta remains 3rd in the east and 6th in the Shield race, with Thiago Almada returning from international duty after bagging a goal, along with fellow Designated Player Giorgos Giakoumakis and others (notably center back Miles Robinson and winger Derrick Etienne). Heading into Saturday, Andrew Gutman and Ozzie Alonso are both out with injuries, and Luis Abram is questionable with travel.

Predicted XI:

RBNY Preview

Recent Transfers

This winter, RBNY added backup striker Cory Burke from Philadelphia Union and made the deal for 21 year old striker Elias Manoel from Gremio permanent, but the biggest and most notable addition was striker Dante Vanzeir from Belgium’s Union SG.

Availability

The only player who will miss for RBNY is right winger Serge Ngoma with a hamstring injury.

Players to Watch

Sean Nealis

Nealis has been one of the better center backs in MLS the last few years. He is now without former center back partner Aaron Long, however Red Bull have only conceded four goals all season.

Andres Reyes

Nealis’ center back partner, Reyes has been given the starting role for Red Bull. As I mentioned before, Red Bull have conceded four in five, but Reyes also has one of RB’s four goals this year.

John Tolkin

One of the most highly rated young Americans in MLS. He’ll be in Europe soon enough.

Christian Casseres Jr.

One of the better midfielders in MLS, Caseres has 7 chances created in 360 minutes, four successful dribbles and 5 tackles won with 5 interceptions to boot. Keep an eye out for him.

Frankie Amaya

The American midfielder has started every game for RB, and has 80% successful dribbles with 60% tackles won. Another one to watch in RB’s midfield.

Lewis Morgan

Yet to get on the scoresheet with RB and having limited minutes from injury, Morgan will be looking to do well to help RB find the back of the net like he did 17 last season.

Dante Vanzeir

12 goals/assists in 1622 minutes in Belgium, he’s a signing I’ve been very high on. If I had to put my money on anybody finding the backup of the net on Saturday, it’s Vanzeir.

Elias Manoel

Manoel was brought in permanently and has a goal in 292 minutes. Not the biggest concern for Miles Robinson and Juanjo Purata, but still a good player.

Predicted XI:

Score Prediction:

0-0

Red Bull haven’t scored a ton this year, and I have concern over Vanzeir’s supporting cast going forward, and Atlanta has historically struggled to find the back of the net vs RBNY. I could see this going both ways, and you’d be forgiven for questioning me for betting against Thiago Almada, but the Five Stripes tend to have hard time getting the ball up the pitch against RB.
