This club man. 2 weeks in a row with dominant performances puts us 1 point clear in the Eastern Conference. This one was really special because it was probably the best Atlanta United win in many years. Thiago Almada is cementing his legacy as one of the greats in Atlanta, directly contributing to 8 of Atlanta’s 11 goals this season. Araujo and Wiley also continuing with their fantastic form, both scoring (Wiley assisting as well).
Enough with the game. The Benz is filling up more and more as the season is starting, and I bet the next home game (Red Bulls April 1st) will be sold out. The crowd is also more into games than i’ve seen before since the team created chances almost every second.
Ok back to the game, a couple things that stood out to me is the partnership of Ibarra and Sejdic in the midfield has been class. The combination of Ibarra’s defensive ability and Sejdic’s willingness to find space in the middle has been a big part of the core of these back to back dominating victories. Both fullbacks have also been critical in shutting down wingers basically all season. And obviously, the front four that has been on fire is absolutely destroying anybody in their way. It is incredibly unfortunate that half of that front four will be out next week, but Wiley and Araujo, who are staying next week, can still produce the dynamite Atlanta needs for another dominant offenseive performance.
Giakoumakis making his first start made for some fun, as he tried his hardest to stay onsides. At least he was trying to make the runs though ;). He jumped like a flying fish to score that fantastic header which put the exclamation point on the match. He worked extremely hard for just one goal that game, he deserved it.
Finally, thank you to everybody who reads this stuff. I will be on the resurge the spike podcast tuesday night at 8 on youtube so make sure to join up. Also I’m planning to do a match watch-along for the Columbus match on The Atlanta Mirrorball youtube, so make sure to join up for that one!
