Atlanta United Preview

I did not watch us in Nashville (youth soccer tournament in Columbus, stupid stressful), but it seems that we were not great. Still, the Five Stripes concerns seem to be in front of them. Heading to Miami in third in the east, equal distance in points from first and fifth, but with many players out. Defensive midfielders Ozzie Alonso and Franco Ibarra are both out, strikers Giorgos Giakoumakis and Eric Lopez are out, as is goalkeeper Brad Guzan, while backup goalkeeper Quintin Westberg and DP winger Luiz Araujo are both listed as questionable. That’s two DPs who may not play, an important midfielder, and the first two goalkeepers in the depth chart, while going on the road.

Predicted XI:

Inter Miami Preview

Recent Transfers

The Herons have made a number of moves in the last few months. They signed breakout 2022 striker Leo Campana permanently on a DP deal, added Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez on a free and a TAM deal after a dramatic 2022, as well as Argentine winger Nico Stefanelli from Swedish club AIK, Ukrainian center back with 31 national team caps Sergiy Kryvstov from Shaktar Donetsk, 30 year old defensive mid Dixon Arroyo from Emelec, Argentine and San Lorenzo academy product Franco Negri from Godoy Cruz at left back, and Kamal Miller from CF Montreal via a trade. They also dropped former MLS MVP Alejandro Pozuelo.

Availability

Ian Fray is out, as well as crucial midfielders Jean Mota and Gregore, while goalkeeper Nick Marsman and forward Robbie Robinson are questionable.

Players to Watch

Kamal Miller

One of the best center backs in MLS last season for Montreal. Miami absolutely ripped Montreal off with this deal, and now they have an elite center back.

Sergiy Kryvstov

A quality veteran center back from maybe the biggest club in Ukraine. Could be tough to get past, alongside Miller.

Deandre Yedlin

US International and one of the best right backs in MLS last season, he’s an experienced vet who could cause problems on the right side.

Leo Campana

A brace against Columbus in one of his first games back from injury, with some quality goals. He’s a quality striker who can hold the ball up and obviously can find the back of the net.

Predicted XI:

Score Prediction:

1-0, Inter Miami

I can’t see either team being… good. Atlanta has been horrible in recent weeks, but Miami have no midfield and just overall not great production. I don’t see Atlanta getting a goal. After watching Miami live last week, they’re not good going forward. They bunkered and countered and it worked, against a poor Columbus back line, granted, but also away from home. With Campana playing and Pizzaro possibly playing, I could see them finding the back of the net, especially without their best midfielders.
