A rumor arose Tuesday that both Atlanta United and Charlotte FC have made offers for 26 year old Racing Club forward Enzo Copetti. And after analyzing Copetti for a little bit, hopefully Charlotte beats us out and pays the sum that Racing Club are looking for, $10 million. Enzo is a great player, but not a player that Atlanta United fans are looking for. United fans are searching for a proven number 9, someone they can rely on to put up GOALS, like Josef Martinez a few years ago. Copetti has put up just 11 goals and 4 assists in 25 matches in Argentina, very solid but not enough for the picky fans (including me). At first I proposed to myself that Copetti would be worth it if it was a non Designated Player contract, but I don’t see a point.
At a club like Atlanta, and manager Gonzalo Pineda’s frustrations with the striker position all year, why not go all out and splash on a big time player. It obviously does not have to be a Ronaldo, but there is one name that rings throughout the fanbase, Gabriel Barbosa. And if you asked me, that is the 26 year old striker that Atlanta United needs. But hey who knows, Copetti could come here and absolutely ball out, or play bad, only time can tell with him, but you have to put in that huge investment first.
